What to expect
This is the easy way to see a Mount Batur sunrise: no trekking, just an off-road 4WD jeep ride to a sunrise viewpoint on the volcano. Your driver picks you up from your hotel in the early hours (the exact time depends on your area) and takes you to Kintamani, where the jeep climbs rough volcanic tracks in the dark to a sunrise point on Mount Batur. While the sky changes colour over Lake Batur and the surrounding mountains, you have breakfast with coffee or tea and time for photos. After sunrise you relax in the warm pools of Toya Devasya Natural Hot Spring by Lake Batur (entrance included), then your driver takes you back to your hotel. The whole tour takes about 6–8 hours in total, including hotel transfers. Good to know: it is cold before dawn at Mount Batur, so bring a warm jacket, plus swimwear and a change of clothes for the hot spring. Sunrise views depend on clouds and weather.
